A pretty village of Toulouse bricks, Lanta was in the Middle Ages the suburb of the Hunaud de Lanta castrum, whose heretical cause meant that it was affected by the tragedy of Montségur in 1244, where Marquésia Hunaud was burned at the stake with her daughter and granddaughter.
Of the original castle, only the feudal mound remains. The churches were also damaged by the Protestant movement in the 1830th century. It was Urbain Vitry, architect of the Abattoirs and the Jolimont Observatory in Toulouse, who supervised the restoration of the churches of Notre Dame de l'Assomption and St Anatoly in the XNUMXth century. Rebuilt in XNUMX on the site of a XNUMXth century building, the Notre Dame church is representative of the neoclassical style with its two-level bell tower and triangular pediment.
